Just Us Girls

Today Síofra and I had a day out together; Paddy was in the creche, Daithí was in work, so it was just us. We haven't had many days like this, and it was a really enjoyable day.

First of all, we had to go to the Children's Hospital because Síofra had an appointment with the orthoptist. Long story short, about a year and a half ago her playschool teacher noticed that her right eye would occasionally drift out to the side. We've had a series of appointments with the orthoptist and a consultant, and for the past 3 months Síofra has been wearing an eyepatch 6 days a week, for 2 hours each day. Today's appointment was to see if this has made any difference--great news, the strabismus has improved greatly, as has Síofra's control of it. To be honest, I've only noticed it about 10 times in the past year, usually when she's tired. But the doctors can measure these things more accurately, and I was so pleased that our diligent use of the patch has worked. Síofra only has to wear it 1 hour a day now, and we go back in October to see if there's more improvement.

After the appointment we got the bus back into town and had a wander around. We got her school shoes for next year, which was very exciting. We got her uniform last week, but I'm saving the debut of that on this blog until September! Needless to say, she's super cute in it.

Then we had lunch in Eddie Rockets. Here's Síofra enjoying her ice cream.

Finally, we headed back towards the creche to collect Paddy, stopping at the National Gallery for an hour and checking out the art. Síofra really enjoys going there.

It was a great day, just us girls!

Hi Siofra,

we really liked your message on our blog. Myself and Eric were glad to hear that you had such a nice "just us girls" day out with your Mom, and that your eye is better. Eric was VERY impressed, and possibly a big jealous, when he saw your bowl of ice-cream!

We both miss you and Paddy loads too. We have a photo of you with Eric and Paddy on our fridge that we look at every day. It puts big :) on our faces.

Love you!

Kusi

ps Can you ask your Mom if there is a way to cook popcorn at home that stops it from becoming chewy styrofoam???

Yeah for girls! With the little bundle in my tummy getting bigger all the time, I am finding myself getting all misty every time L and I have a great "girl's day".

If the weather holds out, we are going to an outdoor production of "Where the Wild Things Are" tonight-- just us girls.

In an unrelated mysterious turn of events, Lucy spent the morning at her preschool teacher's summer "camp" and there was a new girl there...guess what her name was? Annika....no lie...

I loved this blog!!! so glad that Siofra's eye control is better. I only saw it once when I was there.
Looks like you had a fun day out. I am so looking forward to your visit the end of this month. only 18 days to go. today is your brother Tim's birthday. he is 44. we had him and Timmy and Jake over for dinner. Tim's gift was a crockpot as he cooks like a Kildee.
See you very soon. Love to all, Mom

Oh my god... when i saw Siofra with the patch it brought back so many memories with Brianne. You are soooo lucky you caught it early. Because Bri's eye never wandered we didn't catch it until 3rd grade. She had to wear the patch for a year, all day long. I spent every morning with markers decorating her patch to match her outfits. I got phone calls from strangers asking where I bought her patches. I could have started a small business! But in the end, she was too old for the patch to work, her vision in her "bad" eye didn't improve. I'm very happy that it's working for Siofra!!! Can't wait to see you
Maureen
